SHORE POINT DISTRIBUTORS' WORKERS LOCKED OUT - (5/12/2017)

On April 30, Shore Point, Freehold, New Jersey, locked out 113 of its workers in an attempt to force them to give up their pension, accept a 3-year wage freeze, and agree to give the company permission to change their health insurance plan and co-pays at any time.

These workers are members of Teamsters Local 701 in North Brunswick, New Jersey. Local 701 had been in negotiations for a new contract with Shore Point since Feb. 28, 2017. The workers and their union wanted to continue negotiations, but Shore Point locked them out instead. - Excerpt from Teamster's Website

BELMAR MAYOR MATT DOHERTY STANDS UP FOR UNION WORKERS

Shore Point Distributing Co. Inc. won't be allowed to provide beer at Belmar's annual seafood festival after it locked out workers as part of a contract dispute, the borough's mayor said Friday.

Mayor Matt Doherty said the Belmar Seafood Festival, set for May 19 to 21, will search for a replacement or forgo a beer tent altogether if the two sides can't reach an agreement.

"Belmar is a middle-class, working-class community, and I don't think we should be hosting a company that is locking out middle-class, working-class people from their jobs," Doherty told the Asbury Park Press. - Excerpt from the Asbury Park Press
